Aialik Bay Glacier Paddleboarding

  • A Rare Experience
Paddleboard downwind away from a tidewater glacier
  • Enjoy the Ride
We use small capacity, well-appointed water taxis to reach Aialik Bay for this trip
  • Pioneering SUP trips in Alaska
We are the only company offering paddleboarding trips of this caliber in Seward

This trip is the first guided excursion of its kind in Alaska

Difficulty Level

3

Experience on an SUP required.
You should be comfortable balancing
and paddling on a SUP. Can be physically
challenging due to the amount of paddling.

Have you ever wanted to stand in front of a tidewater glacier and feel the katabatic winds fall down the massive face of the glacier, ripple across the ocean water and lap at the side of your paddleboard?

As you contemplate the shear size of the glacier you hear bits and pieces fall, making a boom echo along the rock cliffs that are directing the flow of the ancient frozen river. You paddle around chunks of ice that have calved off the face and now float on the surface of the fjord's waters. Nearby there are bald eagles, black bears, seals and whales- all sharing this experience of rugged Alaskan wilderness. Standing on your paddleboard you can move freely, able to look in all directions and paddle towards something new and exciting.

Our newest trip, paddle boarding up to a tidewater glacier, once again changes the game of adventure travel in the rugged Alaskan backcountry. Liquid Adventures was the first company to introduce the fast growing sport of Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) to Seward and one of the first in the state. We started glacier SUP trips in Bear Glacier Lagoon and have now taken that expertise to another level with introducing SUP to Kenai Fjords National Park.

We start our trip with a whale watching, wildlife viewing water taxi ride from the Seward Boat Harbor, south out of Resurrection Bay and into Aialik Fjord. Our experienced captain will sail us to sea lion haul outs, puffin rookeries, otters and of course humpback and orca whale encounters. Once in Holgate Arm of the fjord we will approach our glacier where we launch our paddleboards to begin our quiet journey to the face of a tidewater glacier.

Following the glacier paddle we then explore the rugged shoreline of Holgate Arm by paddling back up the fjord, usually with the wind at our back, to explore thousand foot waterfalls, rock gardens, caves, tidal waterfalls and of course local wildlife of bears, bald eagles, whales, otters, seals and whoever else wants to stop by and say hello.

This phenomenal adventure experience is the first of its kind in Seward. Be one of the first explorers to SUP where boards have never gone. Every client is fully outfitted in quality Kokatat dry suit, gloves and water shoes. Lunch is provided as are waterproof cases for your phones.

We are so completely stoked on this trip, we hope to share our enthusiasm with you in the fjord lands- SUP style.

The Journey to Aialik Bay

HIDE

Cruise to Aialik Bay in a Small Water Taxi

From our office, we'll take a 2 minute van ride to where the water taxi is moored.

After boarding, it's roughly a two hour ride out to Aialik Bay. We take our time on the way out, looking constantly for marine life like whales, otters, puffins, porpoises, and much more. The journey out can usually be considered a wildlife tour in and of itself.

When we get to Aialik Bay, we unload the paddleboards and cast off from the vessel, which will return and meet us at the end of the day.

This is a small (for a water taxi) vessel that is comfortable and fast, offering a more exclusive experience than some of the larger vessels in service.

Book This Trip

Small Water Taxi

Ride in a small, well-appointed water taxi out to Aialik Bay.

Please note that this ride, while usually calm, can sometimes get bumpy if weather comes in. We always do our best to make the ride comfortable, but we can't control the weather!

Water Taxi Capacity

 12

A maximum of 12 clients are on the boat during a trip. Some of these clients might be from other local guiding outfits.

Ride Time

 1.5 - 2.5hrs

The ride in the jetboat is roughly 1.5 to 2.5 hours in each direction. The exact time is highly dependant on weather, and wildlife sightings. Usually, one direction takes longer than the other because we're searching for whales.
