Tonsina Creek Half Day

  • Great for Groups
This short paddle is great for families, beginners, or those with limited time

A short paddle on beautiful water, this trip is a great way to learn about kayaking or
simply to get out for a short paddle in Alaska's water.

Difficulty Level

1

This trip is perfect for those with a tight schedule, or for those who are just beginning with kayaking. This is a short, but scenic trip, which makes it ideal for families or groups of travelers.

Please note that it is important to remember that even though this is a pretty relaxed paddle, we are outdoors for this trip, so good rain gear and a sense of adventure are a must.

Our 3-hour excursion is ideal for those with limited time, a tight schedule, or for those who want a mild introduction to paddling in the ocean.

After meeting at our office and shuttling out to the beach, we will begin with basic sea kayak instruction. Once on the water, your guide will also provide an informative narration about the small, fascinating creatures in the intertidal zone and geological features along the rocky shoreline. Resurrection Bay is rich with geological history and there are many opportunities for wildlife viewing.

We’ll watch for otters and eagles as we paddle to a small tidal creek to explore a ghost forest and an Alaskan salmon habitat. Later in the summer, Tonsina Creek is filled with running salmon, and it's a huge treat to be able to watch these incredible fish swim up the stream to their spawning grounds at the end of their fascinating life cycle.

Occasionally, Orcas, sea lions and porpoise are sighted. Halfway through this relaxing paddle, we beach our boats along the shore for a refreshing homemade snack and drink.

Remember; you are on water! You are ultimately responsible for keeping your awesome camera gear dry!
